A long time back Artificial intelligence (AI) has been a fantasy for humankind but now it is more of a reality. AI is like an ever-evolving dream because the potential of AI is way higher than the journey we have come so far. It has brought so many things into a reality that we used to think weren’t possible at all. Today it is used in almost all industries and areas. The help of AI has a great impact on everyone’s life. Let’s look at the healthcare industry and see how far we have been through and what it would look like tomorrow. Below are five major evolutions of AI in Healthcare.

Data management

When the quantity increases manual data management becomes intricate. A hospital needs to manage data in bulk and continuously update them. Digitizing the data management processes was a trend long back and people still find difficulties in consolidating and analyzing them. AI has provided that one-stop solution for all problems located in data management. It helps gather information and store them in one place in one format which is gathered in different places using different methods in different formats. At the same time, AI has the ability to analyze the data and give feedback regarding patients’ conditions in real-time which could help further treatments.

Medical imaging

Medical imaging is taken to the next level of it with the help of AI. Now robots are included in the process of imaging and analyzing. Reduction of the time consumed in analyzing medical images is a great benefit. The doctors spend long hours analyzing medical images and still making mistakes is humanly possible. AI is now able to reduce the risks and improve the quality of decision-making. This enables the early detection of the health issues such as cardiovascular issues, fractures, injuries, neurological abnormalities and defects as well as Thorax issues.

Virtual assistance / nurse

Virtual assistance or virtual nursing is replacing human processes that have to be done by nurses or doctors. This directly helps doctors to gather initial information regarding the patient and the symptoms. Bots are used in this mechanism and are using AI. They mainly provide necessary information at a higher efficiency where the doctors can prepare themselves in advance before channeling the patient. Virtual assistance has the purpose of reducing the time consumed in doctor-patient first encounters. Advanced AI technology provides the facility of the bots analyzing collected data and providing guidance over consultation.

Robots

Robots with AI invading the healthcare industry are impressive. There are different sorts of robots designed and developed by many companies while many continue to invest in R&D for robots in healthcare. Sometimes the idea of robots performing surgeries can be scary as it is new for many but trust in the performance can be gained eventually. Surgical robots are the ones performing surgeries on humans under minimum inspection by doctors. There are robots performing dental surgeries and other surgeries or partial surgeries such as urological, bariatric, gynecological, and orthopedic surgeries. Apart from surgeries robots are used in other areas of healthcare. Care robots and hospital robots are two types of robots that perform other tasks. Care robots are used to help elderly and disabled patients. This will be a great trend in the future as some countries face problems with a shortfall of caregivers and an increased number of elders. Care robots are also used to assist nurses in basic tasks while allowing nurses to perform more sensitive and individualized tasks. Hospital robots are used to deliver medicines, laboratory specimens, and other clinical supplies within the hospital area. This reduces the traveling time of humans as it can be exhaustive and distracting and it allows humans to perform more effective tasks or take good rest using that time.

Precision medicine

Precision medicine believes that each patient reacts differently to each disease and medicine according to the patient’s DNA. Precision medicine helps individualize the treatments after analyzing the patient closely. AI has contributed a lot to precision medicine and it helps detect diseases such as cancers and vascular diseases at an early stage when detecting through symptoms or by a doctor isn’t possible. Thankfully to AI, now patients can get the treatments early as possible. It is life-saving.
